In 1937 several rural residents started this cooperative to supply needs for electricity that others were not interested in supplying.  Upshur-Rural has grown through the years and now serves in 10 East Texas counties. (Upshur, Camp, Marion, Harrison,Gregg, Smith, Cass, Rusk, Morris, and Wood)

Upshur-Rural Electric has over 5,600 miles of line to serve  40,000+ members.
